We will explore modern barriers to discussing race and class openly, and the resulting impacts on examining slavery thoroughly. The day will draw heavily on Traces of the Trade, an Emmy-nominated documentary about modern descendents of slave traders grappling with their family's legacy. The film's co-director and producer will be on hand to discuss her work and strategize with teachers about using the film in the classroom.
