Saklan Valley School
Saklan Valley School Announces its New Mission

August 26, 2010 -- Saklan students, faculty, and families joined together on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 25th, to celebrate the announcement of the school’s new mission, “To challenge students to think creatively, act compassionately, and live courageously.”

The entire Saklan community is thrilled with this announcement which was recently approved by the Board of Trustees. Lisa Rokas and Tom Eckstein, Board of Trustee Co-Chairs, both agree that “it truly captures what Saklan is all about.” As a non-profit, independent school in the Lamorinda area, this new mission will help prospective families have a better understanding of the school. Dave Hague, Saklan’s Head of School states, “We live by this mission everyday, but it is also something to which we aspire.”

Saklan provides a creative and meaningful academic environment for students Preschool thru 8th grade. Each student benefits from the small class sizes (16 students per class) as well as an enriched integrated curriculum. There is weekly instruction in Spanish, Music, Art, Science, Technology, and Library time across the grade levels. The thoughtfully designed field trips and experiential travel programs also allow students to take learning outside the classroom. Saklan’s culture truly focuses on building community, friendships and accomplishments.

Saklan invites the public to join them every Friday morning at 8:30am for their traditional Friday Flag ceremony which is held in the front of the School. Learn more about Saklan at www.saklan.org or call 376-7900 for a tour.
