The Trustee/School Head Conference provides new and experienced trustees, school heads and religious leaders workshops and sessions on a wide variety of topics vital to independent schools.

Keynote Speakers

Americus Reed II, The Whitney M. Young Jr. Professor of Marketing at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania & Co-Founder of Persona Partners, will present the Saturday keynote address

Donna Orem, President, National Association of Independent Schools, will present the Sunday morning keynote address.

Americus Reed II
Americus Reed, II is the Whitney M. Young Jr., Professor of Marketing at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he has served on faculty since 2000. He teaches customer analysis, branding and consumer psychology to undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and executive students.

An avid fitness enthusiast, part time drummer and tireless educator, Americus' primary research and consulting areas are in brand equity and Identity Loyalty the study of creating and fostering "brand communities" that transcend the utilitarian aspects of products to actualize iconic levels of symbolic identity and self-expression; connect to deep levels of emotional and social affiliation, and cultivate lifelong relationships with intermediate customers and end consumers. In 2005, his academic work in this area received honorable mention for the prestigious Robert Ferber Award for academic impact in the Journal of Consumer Research (JCR) and in 2009 he received JCR's Best Paper Award. Americus describes the power of branding in his TEDx conversation. He has authored more than 50 articles, book chapters and cases on the topic and has been featured on CNN, CNBC, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, New York Times, NPR, the Hidden Brain Podcast and Knowledge at Wharton. He hosts a Podcast called Marketing Matters which airs live on Wednesdays on Wharton's Sirius XM Channel 132 Business Radio.
Donna Orem
Donna Orem was named President of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) in November 2016. NAIS provides services to more than 1,800 schools and associations of schoolsin the United States and abroad, including 1,500 nonprofit, private K-12 schools in the U.S.

Orem served as the Chief Operating Officer for NAIS for 11 years before becoming president. In that capacity, she directed the organization’s strategic planning and provided vision and leadership for the organization in the identification and development of new initiatives, products, and services.She also oversaw NAIS human resources and talent management.

Orem joined NAIS in 1998 as the Vice President for Educational Leadership, later becoming the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Research. Prior to joining NAIS, she served as the Vice President for Products and Services Development at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). In her 15 years at CASE, she also served as Vice President for Independent Schools, managing all services for the independent school advancement community including the annual CASE/NAIS Conference. She also served as Associate Director for The American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Orem speaks frequently about leadership, governance, trends in independent education, and workforce development. She is the author of numerous books and articles. She is the co-author of the NAIS Trustee Handbook, 10th edition, published in September 2015.

She holds a B.A. in English from St. Joseph's University (Pennsylvania) and attended graduate school at the University of Maryland School of Journalism.
