Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1250 students in grades JK-12. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations within the Business Office, including month end and year end close. Supervises accounts payable and student billing.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee accounting activities ensuring data integrity, completeness and accuracy
• Manage timely month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, subsidiary ledgers and account reconciliations on a monthly basis, in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain detailed records to support financial transactions
• Ensure adherence to policy and procedures, and internal controls
• Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements
• Provide training to existing and new staff
• Other financial or general support duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting experience, 2 years in a supervisory role
• Self-starter with excellent time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and reset priorities quickly
• Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to articulate clear message
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience with month-end/year-end close process
• Familiarity with preparation and review of financial statements
• Experience working for an organization whose financial statements have been audited
• Experience in accounting software conversions preferred, but not required
• Integrity, diplomacy, professionalism and confidentiality
