Middle School Mandarin Teacher (Part-Time to Full-time ) – 2019-20

The Position

The Nueva Middle School is currently seeking a part-time to full-time experienced Mandarin teacher. In addition to specific subject matter expertise, the ideal candidate would have interest and experience in interdisciplinary approaches, and have flexibility and experience with a range of levels of instruction – Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. The candidate should also have experience in differentiated instruction, as there will also be a range of ability within one class. Ours is not a textbook based approach and this teacher will have ample opportunity to co-construct curriculum and create project-based immersive language experiences. This role includes important leadership as a part of the world language team with Spanish and Japanese. In addition to teaching grades 5-8, this teacher may help coordinate the January Mandarin Exchange and May China trip programs. Teachers may also have the opportunity to crossover and teach in our Upper School as well. Additional responsibilities for all full-time teachers include advising students, offering an academy (enrichment-type course), and facilitating a weekly literature club.

Position Qualifications:
• Bachelor's and advanced university degree, with a minimum of three years teaching experience
• US work authorization required
• Familiar with both traditional and simplified Mandarin
• Successful teaching experience in secondary school and/or university
• Excellent communication skills
• A desire to integrate curriculum with other subjects and to teach collaboratively
