Middle School Math Teacher
Description
Middle School Math San Francisco Friends School, a Quaker school located in the Mission District of San Francisco, seeks an experienced middle school math teacher for the 2019-20 school year.

The school seeks teachers who resonate with the Friends school mission, which provides an exemplary education in a community dedicated to problem-solving, service to others, simplicity, social justice, and quiet reflection. Our Quaker mission also compels us to create a diverse and inclusive community; we seek a person who will thrive and contribute to such a community, both within and beyond the walls of the school.

San Francisco Friends School seeks an experienced middle school teacher who is compelled by the school’s mission and committed to progressive math education. The Math at Friends is an inquiry based, conceptual, hands-on math program where students grapple with problems and make meaning of the mathematics for themselves. We strive to build the capacity in students to think mathematically, solve problems with confidence, and to love mathematics. Teachers are engaged in regular collaboration, curriculum development and pedagogical reflection. Candidates need to have a strong math background and be invested in collaborating with colleagues and working closely with students.

Candidates should know that San Francisco Friends School deeply values integration and collaboration. The school will launch a new schedule in the 2019-2020 school year that will feature a block dedicated to transdisciplinary studies. Teachers will work in cross disciplinary teams to develop and implement curriculum aimed at examining relevant contemporary topics in their full complexity.

Responsibilities include close teamwork for curriculum development, committee involvement, student assessment, supervising an advisory group, parent communications, and supervision of students at lunch and recess. The school has programs in outdoor education as well as various curricular and cultural explorations; middle school teachers accompany their students on extended trips locally, nationally, and internationally.

Preferred Qualities:
- Three or more years of experience teaching middle school math
- Knowledge of current pedagogy and facility with hands-on and project-based instruction
- Openness to Quaker philosophy
- Collaborative and creative team player

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and three references to:
