Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is rooted in a strong and deep history. Founded in 1898 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation of Catholic women religious, it is a Roman Catholic, independent, coeducational school dedicated to the educational philosophy expressed in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. SHS is made up of three divisions: Preschool & Kindergarten, Lower & Middle Schools (grades first through eighth) and Preparatory (grades nine through 12).

Located on a beautiful 64‐acre campus in the San Francisco Bay Area, SHS is one of 24 schools in the U.S. and Canada Network of Sacred Heart Schools and is affiliated with a network of over 200 Sacred Heart schools worldwide. The Position
SHS seeks a talented and highly qualified fulltime, long-term substitute English instructor to teach high school students for the 2019-2020 academic year beginning in August 2019. The successful candidate must prove excellent skills as a teacher and a demonstrated passion for literature, composition and fostering a passion in adolescents to read and write complex texts. A healthy sense of humor is always a plus.

Key responsibilities for this important role include but are not limited to:
Evaluates student work and provides meaningful feedback to guide learning / growth.
Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning.
Collaborates with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs.
Contributes actively to build a vibrant faculty/staff learning culture.

The ideal candidate will have a BA degree or post graduate work in English and/or education and we prefer to see candidates with an MA degree and/or additional coursework or work experience in a relevant field. A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience is required and a clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education is essential.
