High School World Language Teacher (Spanish)
The School
Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is rooted in a strong and deep history. Founded in 1898 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation of Catholic women religious, it is a Roman Catholic, independent, coeducational school dedicated to the educational philosophy expressed in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. SHS is made up of three divisions: Preschool & Kindergarten, Lower & Middle Schools (grades first through eighth) and Preparatory (grades nine through 12).

The Position
SHS seeks a talented and highly qualified fulltime World Language Instructor to teach Spanish to high school students and provide them with a robust experience of the language and culture beginning in August 2019. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent skills as a teacher and a passion for World Language and culture. A healthy sense of humor is always a plus.

Key responsibilities for this important role include but are not limited to:
• Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
• Collaborates with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs.
• Contributes actively to build a vibrant faculty/staff learning culture.
• A strong understanding of and commitment to pedagogy aligned with the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages’ (ACTFL) World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate innovative technology to support student learning.
• Demonstrated ability to support all learners, including those with an identified learning difference.
• Obvious passion for Spanish language and all aspects of culture in regions where Spanish is spoken and for fostering that passion in adolescents.

The ideal candidate will have a BA degree or post graduate work in Spanish and/or education and we prefer to see candidates with an MA degree and/or additional coursework or work experience in World Language. A demonstrated ability to teach adolescents with joy and verve along with a minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience are required. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education is essential.
