Job Title: General Ledger Accountant

Division/Department: Business Office

Reports to: Controller
Location: Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA
Type of position/FLSA: Non-Exempt


Working under the supervision of the Controller, the General Ledger Accountant position is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the organization’s financial records (general ledger). The General Ledger Accountant will also be accountable for creating journal entries and assembling supporting documentation, as well as for tracking the contents of accounts. The General Ledger Accountant will assist in all month-end, quarter-end and year-end account closing activities and reconciliations; including assisting in creating the financial statements and the review of monthly financial reports to identify and explain variances. The General Ledger Account will serve as the back-up for both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable positions.
 In this role, one will be utilizing their technical accounting expertise to provide the following support to the Controller:
• Assist in the Month-end, quarter-end and year-end account closing activities and reconciliations
• Review monthly financial reports to identify and explain variances
• Assist in the preparation of cash flow statements and resolve outstanding balancing issues
• Monthly General Ledger account’s variance analysis and explanations
• Monthly bank account statement reconciliations to general ledger
• Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare necessary journal entries including accruals
• Consolidation, inter-company transactions and reconciliations
• Ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and compliance to internal policies
• Assist in the management of the Fixed Assets activities
• Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activities accounts reconciliations
• Property, sales and use tax and franchise tax returns
• Assist Auditors with the Annual 990 tax preparation and filing activities
• Support Auditor in conducting the annual independent audit
• Provide Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable backup
• Follow documentation retention policy to maintain accounting records and files
• Provide appropriate accounting information to customers when needed
• Assist various departments in accounting issues and inquiries
• Interface with management in various departments
• Perform duties and special projects as assigned

Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA is a plus.
Strong technical fund accounting (non-profit) background.
At least two years general ledger fund accounting (non-profit) experience is required
Strong Excel and database skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong organizational skills
Team player and have ability to work independently
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout organization
