Middle School Mathematics Teacher

We’re looking for . . .
ESLA’s Mathematics Department is seeking a teacher with an unshakable commitment to student success; whose classroom is filled with joy and authentic connections.
The ideal candidate has some or all of the following characteristics:
● A strong background in mathematics,
● Demonstrated success teaching mathematics to students in grades 6-8,
● Strongly believes that all students can and should learn rich college-preparatory mathematics,
● A passion and knowledge of working with a diverse student body, with a commitment to equity and inclusion,
● Knowledge of effective differentiation techniques to support students from a range of socio-economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds, including learning differences,
● Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in public, charter, parochial or independent schools,
● Interest in continuing professional development in mathematics education.
● Interest in contributing to a school culture and community outside beyond teaching mathematics.
● Likes working with students and colleagues in collaborative settings.

Additional Assets (Preferred, not Essential):
● Has an interest and experience developing and teaching Computer Science/Coding/Robotics courses in grades 6-8

Responsibilities . . .
● Teach 5 sections of middle school mathematics.
● Preparation of course materials, both working from existing curricular frameworks and through the development of new materials
● Participate in after-school (3:30 - 5:30 p.m.) programs 1-2 days a week (sports, clubs, performing arts, academic support, etc.)
● Advisor/Homeroom teacher to a small group of Middle School students
● Attend regular community gatherings, including, but not limited to, meetings, Chapel, community lunch, field trips and major Feast Days.

Requirements . . .
● A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in mathematics; a master’s degree and/or teaching credential is preferred
● Effective classroom management techniques, especially with middle school students
● Ability to integrate technology to enhance student achievement,
● The ability to work collaboratively within the department as well as to seek out opportunities to collaborate with others.
