Director of Alumni Relations
Description
The College Preparatory School, an independent coeducational secondary school in Oakland, California, seeks a Director of Alumni Relations. This position is currently open with a mutually agreeable start date.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Director of Alumni Relations is a key member of the Advancement team. They will have primary responsibility for engaging our 3,400 alumni in the life of the school and with each other through events, The Alumni Annual Fund, personal visits, social media, publications, and volunteer management. This position is also responsible for selected general advancement events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cultivation
• Visit and cultivate alumni with philanthropic and volunteer potential
• Suggest, Recruit, support alumni speakers for on campus programs
• Suggest, recruit, and support alumni speakers for Advisory Council/Board of Trustees Dinner; Spring Leadership Event; and Graduation
• Suggest, recruit, and support the Alumni Association President

Communication
PrepTimes (biannual magazine)
• Choose issue’s “theme” with input from Advancement Department and Head of School
• Alumni Spotlight: Suggest, recruit, interview, and complete first draft of 3-5 interviews per issue
• Alumni Association President: Drafts biannual letter for/with president
Alumni Assembly E-Newsletter
• Create and send bi-annual e-newsletter
Social Media
• Post on Facebook re: events, student highlights, and “throwbacks” with regularity

Alumni Events
Annual Reunion
• Plan and attend on-campus Reunion event
Regional Events
• Plan and attend annual Bay Area events including Young Alumni Holiday Party
• Plan and attend regional events as determined annually

The Alumni Annual Fund
Working closely with the Director of Annual Giving/Associate Director of Development
• Directly cultivate and solicit key volunteers and other assigned prospects
• Determine “ask” amounts for all alumni
• Recruit, train, and support volunteer solicitors and/or letter writers
• Work with Development Database Manager to: Create support materials for solicitors; Create solicitation letters; Ensure proper gift allocations; Pull reports as needed; Create timely acknowledgement letters
• Work with the Director of Communications to create collateral materials
• Work with the Director of Leadership Giving & Stewardship to coordinate prospects

Advancement Events
• Fall Leadership Event: Plan and attend The Annual Fund kick-off and thank-you to donors, key volunteers, and planned giving members
• Spring Appreciation Event: Plan and attend the leadership level donors thank-you party featuring a conversation between the Head of School and an alumnus/a
• Grandfriends Day: Plan and attend event on campus

General
• Work evenings and weekends as required
• Travel in the Bay Area and infrequently nationally as requested
• Assist with Advancement Office activities and initiatives as requested
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years in advancement or equivalent position
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and self-management skills
• Bachelor’s degree required
• A champion of independent school education strongly preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Experience with constituent relationship management (CRM) systems such as Raiser’s Edge, or equivalent client management system
• Highest ethical standards

COMPENSATION
The Director of Alumni Relations is an exempt position. Compensation is competitive and based on experience and includes a generous benefit package. Faculty and staff enjoy sharing a prepared lunch every day.
