School Description:
Saint Mark’s School was founded in 1960 by a group of dedicated parents who determined that there was a need in the Altadena community for quality education in a racially integrated setting. It was hoped Saint Mark’s School would be free from the racial turmoil the community was experiencing, and it would be a place where children could learn and prosper in an environment of acceptance and respect for differences in ethnic, racial, religious, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. While continuing to serve its original purpose, the School has incorporated into its philosophy the contention that children with differing abilities and motivational levels can be served by its competent faculty and staff. The School remains open to people of all faiths and backgrounds. Saint Mark’s School is a non-profit organization governed by an independent board of trustees. It is situated on a five-acre campus in a residential sector of Altadena, an unincorporated city within the County of Los Angeles.
