Board Chair/School Head Online Workshop

When? Sunday, May 16, 2020, 9:00am - 2:00pm

Good independent school governance is foundational to the success of a school fulfilling its mission. This workshop will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of an independent school Board Chair and the importance of a healthy Board Chair/Head partnership.

This workshop is restricted to CAIS Heads of School and Heads Elect, Board Chairs, Vice Chairs and Chairs Elect. Thank you.

Lynn Wendell, Consultant, Past Board Chair, and Trustee

Reveta Bowers is the former Head of School at the Center for Early Education in Los Angeles. As Lead Faculty Member at the NAIS Institute for New Heads, she taught more than 700 Heads of School. Her extensive board experience includes serving as an outside director of the Walt Disney Company, as past Treasurer of the National Association of Independent Schools, as past president of CAIS, and as a former trustee at Harvard-Westlake, Brentwood, and Windward Schools. She is currently on the Board of Directors of Teachers College, Columbia University and is President of the national board of Common Sense Media. Lynn Wendell has worked as a consultant at more than 50 independent schools and nonprofits. She served as a trustee at three independent schools and as Board Chair at San Francisco University High School. This workshop is open to teams of two participants per school: a Head of School, and a Board Chair or Vice Chair. Schools that wish to register a third governance leader must contact the CAIS office, in order to be placed on a waiting list. Additional participants may register if space is available after the registration deadline.

Registered participants for this interactive workshop will have access to speaker presentations. Sessions include breakouts and live chat to enhance participant engagement. Workshop recording (sans breakout discussions) will be available to registered participants following the live presentation for thirty days after the workshop.

Cancellation Policy
Substitutions may be made prior to the workshop. Written cancellations received by May 9, 2021 are eligible for a refund minus a $25 processing fee. Cancellations received after May 9 are ineligible for refund.
