Good independent school governance is foundational to the success of a school fulfilling its mission. This workshop will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of an independent school trustee.

Who should attend? Trustees in their first few years of independent school trusteeship, Committee on Trustees and other Committee Chairs, and Heads of School are encouraged to attend jointly.

Participants may register for one date only, i.e., Sunday, August 21 or Tuesday, August 23.

FEATURED PRESENTERS:
Dr. Deborah Dowling, CAIS Executive Director
Dr. Deborah Dowling has been CAIS' Executive Director since 2020, working with heads and trustees from our 232 member schools. Deborah stays current with state-wide and nation-wide issues in non-profit private education through her work with the California Association of Private School Organizations (CAPSO) and the International Council Advancing Independent School Accreditation (ICAISA). She has previously worked in three CAIS member schools, and is the board secretary of a small performing arts organization.

Lynn Wendell, Consultant, Past Board Chair, and Trustee

Lynn Wendell has worked as a consultant at more than 50 independent schools and nonprofits. She served as a trustee at three independent schools and as Board Chair at San Francisco University High School. Space is limited. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Registration will close when the event is full, which may occur before the registration deadline. This Zoom Meeting includes small breakout room discussion of a governance case study, which makes it necessary to limit the total number of participants whom we can accommodate at each workshop.

Registration includes program fee and resources.

Cancellation Policy
Substitutions may be made prior to the workshop. Written cancellations received by August 15, 2022 are eligible for a refund after a $25 cancellation fee. Cancellations received after August 15 are ineligible for refund.
