High School Chorus Teacher
The School
Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is rooted in a strong and deep history. Founded in 1898 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation of Catholic women religious, it is a Roman Catholic, independent, coeducational school dedicated to the educational philosophy expressed in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. SHS is made up of three divisions: Preschool & Kindergarten, Lower & Middle Schools (grades first through eighth) and Preparatory (grades nine through 12).

The Position
SHS seeks a talented and highly qualified fulltime Chorus Instructor to teach chorus to high school students and lead and develop choral groups for campus Masses, prayer services and choral productions beginning in August 2019. The successful candidate must demonstrate skills as a musician and teacher and a passion for chorus. A healthy sense of humor is always a plus.

Key responsibilities for this important role include but are not limited to:
• Instructing students in music theory, harmony, music appreciation
• Evaluating students’ aptitudes and proficiencies and guides their progress in regards to choral work
• Teaches singing to individuals and groups, including but not limited to student-run a cappella groups
• Collaborates with Campus Minister and Band Director to choose music for school Masses and prayer services
• Prepares students to cantor Masses and Prayer services
• Leads choral groups in regular and special performances for school program, Masses and prayer services, community activities, concerts, and festivals

The ideal candidate will have a BA degree or post graduate work in music or music education and we prefer to see candidates with an MA degree and/or additional coursework or work experience in choral music or music education. A knowledge of contemporary Catholic liturgical music, demonstrated skills as a musician and a proven excellence for leading chorus along with a minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education is essential.
