Spanish Teacher (Grades 6-12)
Summary Description:
The Bishop’s School seeks a full-time Spanish teacher (Grades 9-12) as a one year leave of absence replacement beginning in August 2019. Candidates may be asked to teach courses in both the middle school (grades 6-8) and the upper school (grades 9-12). The World Languages Department is highly collaborative and committed to equipping students for an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse world through language learning. By making the unfamiliar world familiar and by emphasizing the common humanity among diverse peoples, the department strives to prepare students for effective global citizenship and service to the larger community.

In addition to teaching a full load of five classes, faculty responsibilities include serving as an advisor to students and extended-day office hours for additional student support.

Desired Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree (B.A.) is required with native or near-native fluency in Spanish; the most qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferably in an independent school, as well as some preparation in Spanish and Latin American literature and culture.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators
Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills
Ability to function and collaborate effectively as part of a team
Irrespective of own religious orientation, ability to support the School’s mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal tradition
