Learning Strategies Center Coordinator
Description


POSITION OVERVIEW
The LSC Coordinator will serve as part of a team of learning specialists that arranges accommodations and supports neurodiverse and physically impaired students in navigating the high school process. The team develops programs to help all LWHS students achieve greater academic success, and develops interventions and structures designed to foster greater understanding of neurodiversity throughout the whole community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support—Work one on one with students with diagnosed learning differences (and their families), responsibilities to include:

  • Guiding students in the PLP/ IA** process

  • Mentoring in meta-cognitive skills

  • Assisting students in understanding and accessing appropriate accommodations

Work with students in need of learning support who do not have diagnosed learning differences, responsibilities to include:

  • Developing and presenting student workshops, emphasizing meta-cognitive, organizational, and self-regulatory strategies

  • One-on-one tutoring, multiple disciplines preferred

  • Working with teachers to coordinate support of students

  • Assessing and addressing students’ non-diagnosable academic challenges

  • Helping to screen students for possible diagnosable learning challenges

Test Coordination:

  • Facilitation and proctoring of internal accommodated assessments

  • Coordination of on-site standardized testing (PSAT/AP) for all students

  • Proctoring (shared) of weekend accommodated standardized tests

Organizing and monitoring specific LSC programs, including:

  • Peer tutoring program

  • Audio Archives

  • Historical Records Archives

  • Tutoring (FI: grammar, world language, math)

Assist the Director of the LSC with:

  • Managing/communicating with external resources such as tutoring organizations

  • Managing ongoing student caseload

  • Bureaucratic responsibilities and maintenance of student files

  • Envisioning new directions for the program, to better serve the community

School Responsibilities:

  • May serve as an advisor a group of 11-12 students

  • May serve on faculty/staff committees and groups

  • May develop own ideas for expanding community support


QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Deep commitment to working with neuro-diverse students in an independent high school setting.

  • Willingness to pursue education in diversity pedagogy

  • Conversant in factors related to neuro-diversity; ability to interpret psycho-educational evaluations

  • Cognitive flexibility, strong communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and bureaucratic details, highly level of organization

  • MA/MS in field or commensurate experience working with neuro-diverse students in an educational setting

  • Enjoys working with teenagers from a wide range of backgrounds,

  • Team player as well as self-directed worker

  • Ability to set and hold strong boundaries

  • Ability to handle stressful situations with aplomb

  • Availability to work weekend days as needed in order to proctor standardized tests

  • Personal qualities of integrity, resilience, approachability, kindness, and humor
