Position Description:

French at The Athenian School is a key way that students realize learning outcomes in multilingual fluency. The program begins in the Middle School division with French 1A and continues into the Upper School where students move towards AP French and beyond. The Athenian School has a strong international component as travel to and from French speaking countries as part of Round Square, exchange programs fostered through that partnership and service projects related to French are ways in which Athenian students have put what they have learned to practical use.

The Middle School French teacher will teach French 1A, 1B, and 1C and a percentage of Focus Days commensurate with their teaching percentages and elective or flex classes each trimester. This position requires additional co-curricular duties.

Core Qualifications:

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching French at the middle school level (minimum two years); fluency in French and English, and extensive knowledge of French literature and culture.
• Bachelor's degree or at least 3 years teaching experience in relevant field is required
• Demonstrated commitment to education for democracy, justice, equity, inclusion, community service, and environmental stewardship
• Energy and enthusiasm for young adolescents. Positive attitude. Ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two or more years of experience teaching in a middle school
• Master's degree in French or education and/or teaching credential
• Familiar with the use of technology in class
• Native speaker or near-native fluency
