Teacher, Mathematics (High School)
Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults who teach them and learn from them; where the best means of preparing students for the future is to immerse them in the present; where a healthy learning environment requires joy and humor as well as rigorous intensity; and where students’ intellectual and aesthetic depth – along with their capacity for empathy and moral courage – emerge out of authentic engagement with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.

The Opportunity
Oakwood School is seeking a full-time Mathematics teacher (grades 7-12) for the 2019-2020 school year. The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching any level of mathematics from Pre-Algebra through Pre-Calculus; the specific teaching assignment will consist of three (3) classes each trimester, and will likely include some combination of middle school and high school classes. We are seeking candidates who will engage with our students in a progressive, constructivist manner while ensuring sufficient mastery and development of sound mathematical practices. Other responsibilities will include attending department and faculty meetings, as well as parent conferences and open houses; regular communication with parents and administrators; and occasional supervisory duties.

Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience teaching Mathematics in grades 7-12. Master’s degree preferred. Proficient computer skills with Google Drive and Microsoft Windows office products, as well as proficiency with the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to prioritize and carry out assignments with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
