Assistant High School Dean of Students
Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults who teach them and learn from them; where the best means of preparing students for the future is to immerse them in the present; where a healthy learning environment requires joy and humor as well as rigorous intensity; and where students’ intellectual and aesthetic depth – along with their capacity for empathy and moral courage – emerge out of authentic engagement with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.

The Opportunity
Oakwood School is seeking a full-time Assistant High School Dean of Students for the 2019-2020 school year. The Assistant High School Dean of Students works collaboratively with the High School Dean of Students. Their primary role is to build, lead, coordinate and execute the High School Advisory Program through guiding and supporting teams of grade-specific high school advisors. This includes coordinating with Experiential Learning for the advisory-linked grade-level programs of outdoor education/class trips, specifically those held at the opening of the academic year. The Assistant Dean oversees the academic and behavioral progress of students in Grades 9 and 10, and is the primary administrative contact for students, faculty, and families during those two grade years. The Assistant Dean forms effective working partnerships with faculty and parents to monitor the academic, social and emotional needs of students in these grades. He/she is responsible for promoting the healthy growth and well-being of each individual student and the class as a whole and assists in handling breaches of academic integrity and behavioral concerns.

Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience and demonstrated success in the fields of social/emotional learning and outdoor education/experiential learning. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Windows office products and Google Drive. Effective and clear communication skills; articulate and persuasive speaker. Keen listening skills.
