Technical Director (Part-Time)
About Marymount High School

Marymount is an Independent, Catholic all-girls high school that fosters confidence, joy, leadership, and a sense of greater purpose in each student. Education of the whole girl is one of the most important pillars upon which the academic and co-curricular programs are built. The school celebrates the individuality of each student, empowering girls to become their best selves academically, emotionally and socially. Established in 1923 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of May (RSHM), Marymount High School shares the tradition of an international network of schools including sister schools in New York, Europe, and South America. Located in Westwood/Bel Air, just north of UCLA in Los Angeles, Marymount is an Apple Distinguished School featuring a 1 to 1 laptop program and other integrated educational technology.

Position Overview:

The successful Part-Time Technical Director will design, build, and manage the running of lights, sound, and sets for five major events throughout the academic year:

1. Marymount Players Fall Production (September-November)
2. Winter Concert (December)
3. Cabaret Night (February)
4. Marymount Players Spring Musical (January-March)
5. Spring Arts Festival (April)

Provide technical support for the Performing Arts Department at the following minor events:

1. Conservatory Arts Program Opening Meeting (August)
2. Conservatory Arts Program Closing Meeting (May)

Ongoing Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with theater, dance and music instructors.
Instruct and guide stage crew students.
Attend all department and production meetings.
Maintain equipment inventory and storage areas.
Manage technical theater budget.

Fall Production and Spring Musical:

Design sets, lights, sound and props in collaboration with director.
Oversee student Build and Run crews.
o Create student crew calendar.
oRecruit students.
o Teach basic skills and safety precautions.
o Keep attendance records.
Design seating configuration. Make rental arrangements with Steeldeck and installation arrangements with Facilities. Oversee installation.
Collaborate with director in scheduling and overseeing production week details.
Oversee Strike and returns, storage, removal and cleaning.
Interface with Campus Security as needed.

Winter Concert, Cabaret Night, and Spring Arts Festival:

Provide technical aspects of the production as needed, including lights, sound and set decoration.
Recruit and instruct student crews for lights, sound and scene changes as needed.
Design and set up performance space configuration.
Communicate with Facilities as needed.
Run technical and dress rehearsals.
Manage the performances and the strikes.

Conservatory Arts Program Meetings:

Set up, run and strike technical equipment as needed.


Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with an emphasis in Technical Theatre, or equivalent professional experience
Working knowledge of construction and set design
Working knowledge of lighting design
Working knowledge of stage rigging
Working knowledge of audio and sound reinforcement
Working knowledge of stage management/or production management
Working knowledge and clear understanding of professional standards of stage safety
