Grades 3-5 Steam Teacher
The Carey School, a Pre-K to 5 independent school in San Mateo, California seeks an experienced educator for grades 3-5 STEAM teaching position. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience. This role entails integrating grades 3-5 science content with making and engineering skills to create a hands-on, explorative science experience. This dynamic and exciting course is taught in our flexible “thinkering” lab, often in partnership with the PK-2 maker/thinkering teacher. As a specialist teacher for grades 3-5, this teacher works closely with our PK-2 science teacher and our PK-2 maker/thinkering teacher to take discreet skills taught in those classes in the lower grades and deeply integrate them in grades 3-5.

As a member of the science team, the “thinkering” team and the 3-5 grade level teams, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience collaborating with colleagues, designing inquiry-based curriculum and integrating content areas. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to collaborate with colleagues and an ability to lead as well as contribute to new ideas and projects. As a teaching community, The Carey School teachers value collaboration and regular communication to both create integrated projects as well as monitor and support students, the ideal candidate will have an aptitude for this close communication and will be able to quickly contribute to our faculty endeavors. A true fondness for challenging and engaging students, as well as previous experience with the Next Generation Science Standards and the principles of making, the design process and elementary engineering skills are a must.
