Band Teacher (grades 4-8)
Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is seeking highly qualified candidates for a Band Teacher for the 2019-2020 academic year beginning in early August 2019.

Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is rooted in a strong and deep history. Founded in 1898 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation of Catholic women religious, it is a Roman Catholic, independent, coeducational school dedicated to the educational philosophy expressed in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. SHS is made up of three divisions: Preschool & Kindergarten, Lower & Middle Schools (grades first through eighth) and Preparatory (grades nine through 12).

Located on a beautiful 64‐acre campus in the San Francisco Bay Area, SHS is one of 24 schools in the U.S. and Canada Network of Sacred Heart Schools and is affiliated with a network of over 200 Sacred Heart schools worldwide. The Position
This full-time position is an exciting, opportunity to partner with a highly engaged team of educators at one of the most at one of the most premier independent schools on the Peninsula, teaching instrumental music primarily to upper elementary and middle school students in addition to staging and producing various music programs. This includes planning, implementing, and assessing curriculum while supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for teaching instrumental music to upper elementary and middle school students and directing the lower and the middle school bands.
• Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts and other assignments for various music courses.
• Supports and when requested, provides music in regular and special performances for school program, Masses and prayer services, community activities, concerts, and festivals.
• Organizes and directs the pit for the LMS musical, every other year.
• Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Uses effective class management techniques to insure effective learning.
• Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
• Responsible for other faculty duties including advisory.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:
● Master’s degree or post graduate work in music education, will consider a BA degree with a teaching credential and 10 years of recent, relevant experience.
● A minimum of 3 years as a band teacher in grades 4-8 in an independent school environment.
● Strong experience with all aspects of production including but not limited to selecting appropriate material and inspiring budding talent.
● Obvious passion for instrumental music and recent successful experience in directing and producing instrumental music productions.
● Demonstrated ability to develop and teach a curriculum in conjunction with the Fine Arts Department.
● Ability and experience to oversee a department budget.
● A sense of humor!
