Human Resources Manager
This is an English language position; Chinese language proficiency desired but not required.
Full-time, Exempt Position

Join the vibrant community at the Chinese American International School and be part of a team striving to be the world’s most innovative, inspiring, and influential Chinese English dual-language immersion school.The Human Resources Manager is a vital member of our Business Office, working directly for the Director of Finance and Operations. The Human Resources Manager maintains employer HR compliance while supporting administration and faculty of the school in HR matters as well as in the execution of strategic
objectives. The Human Resources Manager is a member of the
Retirement Plan Review Committee, supervises the Health Aides, and collaborates with the Controller in the running of the Business Office. Additionally, this position also works closely with the Head of School to advise on HR matters.
MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS AND RESPONSIBILITY
● Manage all HR administration
● Develop, recommend, implement, maintain HR policy
● Establish trustful communication and relationships with
employees of all levels
● Oversee development of staff training in required areas

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Position responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
● Manage processes from recruiting, selection, hiring, benefit
administration through termination
● Manage and coordinate the implementation and coordination
of school policies, procedures, rules, and practices; EEO
compliance; compensation administration; recruiting and
hiring process; safety and policy training; performance
evaluation process; leave of absences; benefits program;
terminations; HRIS program; and management of employment clearances and personnel records
● Manage employee relation issues in regards to workers
compensation and EDD claims, harassment and discrimination
complaints and investigations
● Ensure legal compliance in all areas including EEO
regulations, Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FSLA, HIPPA, Workers
Compensation, labor law postings, and all federal, state, and
local employment laws
● Assist supervisors with employee performance issues
improvement methods, including guiding supervisors through
progressive discipline and terminations of individual employees
● Support employee relations through interventions with
employees and supervisors confidentially and fairly
● Provide coaching and counseling to supervisors to enhance
individual HR awareness and employment law knowledge.
● Develop, support, and communicate policies and procedures
while ensuring current legal compliance
● Provide policy interpretation while ensuring accurate and
consistent application of policies, procedures, and practices
● Manage benefits program in conjunction with third party
benefit broker and carriers, including open enrollment
meetings, enrollment elections, and cancellations.
● Maintain USCIS work authorization compliance and work with
immigration attorney for visa and green card applications
● Manage faculty employment contracts and wage changes
● Support payroll by providing information on new hires,
terminations, deduction changes, compensation changes, etc.
● Work closely with employment attorney(s) in regards to
employment based claims and terminations as needed
● Reporting to this position:
● Health Aides
● Indirect assistance provided from members of the
Business Office Team
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
● 4+ years of work experience in the human resources field.
● Familiarity and knowledge of federal, state, and local
regulations.
VALUED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
We value, but do not require, the following attributes:
● Bachelor’s degree or PHR certification
● Bilingual in Mandarin desired
● Familiarity with a wide range of computer software
(Microsoft Office, Google, and HRIS programs)
● Experience implementing policies and procedures
● Experience coaching and mediating in regards to employee
relations and performance

ability to maintain confidentiality
● Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation
skills

● Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
