Grade K-4 Teacher

The John Thomas Dye School, an independent K-6 school located in Los Angeles, is currently seeking a full-time Teacher for Grades K-4. The John Thomas Dye School provides for its students a program of academic excellence, one both traditional and dynamic, with a commitment to family and community. The school encourages its students to reach their highest individual potential intellectually, artistically and physically; it nurtures their emotional, moral and social development; and it prepares them to meet the challenges of a diverse and competitive world.

The experienced JOB SUMMARY: The K-4 Teacher will support and implement curriculum planning and educational instruction for all students that meets the objectives of the Schoolís Mission Statement. The Teacher will oversee the needs of students to provide an optimal learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Plan and implement an enriched, challenging and developmentally appropriate grade level curriculum in collaboration with Co-Teacher and Grade Level Team
● Utilize best instructional practices, methods, materials, and technology
● Incorporate appropriate technology to the teaching of grade level skills and to the organization of professional responsibilities
● Evaluate and monitor student work, both formative and summative assessments, benchmarks and other assessments to guide instructional planning and promote student success
● Exercise excellent writing skills to produce detailed narratives regarding student progress to parents
● Hold students to high standards, allowing for differentiation among learning styles
● Demonstrate a repertoire of effective and engaging instructional strategies that meet the needs of all students
● Provide a positive and safe environment for students physically and emotionally that reflects effective classroom management strategies
● Relate to and communicate well with students, parents, administration, staff, and if applicable, outside professionals
● Communicate on a regular basis with Assistant Head of Upper School and Student Services Team Members to discuss student progress
● Model professional and ethical standards and 5Cís (Caring, Consideration, Common Sense, Cooperation, and Courtesy) behavior when interacting with students, parents, and colleagues
● Attend all classroom, grade level, curricular and faculty meetings
● Participate in parent-teacher conferences, parent nights, spotlight events, admissions events, and other events outside contractual hours at the request of the administration
● Help with admissions in and/or admissions out as it relates to interviewing prospective students and/or completing teacher recommendations
● Work with grade level team to plan and organize a grade level service learning project
● Seek knowledge of current instructional theories and best practices and demonstrate a commitment to professional growth by participating in Professional Development opportunities
● Participate in the overall care of students through duties such as morning carpool check-in, recess supervision, lunch duty, and afternoon checkout
● Work collaboratively with other teachers, administration, and staff
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of Upper School or Head of School
● Coordinate with grade level to order textbooks and supplies

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelorís Degree in content area, education, or related field
● A Masterís degree or an equivalent experience as a classroom teacher
● Strong understanding of Independent school methods and ability to effectively integrate best practices
● Strong understanding of academic, social, and emotional development of children
● Strong understanding and use of multiple forms of assessment to inform and drive instruction
● Technology literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills
● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
● Strong organization and time-management skills
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
