Middle School Learning Specialist

We currently have a job opening for a Middle School Learning Specialist Position
East Bay School for Boys--an independent middle school for boys in Berkeley, CA--is looking for a full time Learning Specialist for the 2019/2020 school year.
The ideal candidate:
has experience as a learning specialist at a middle or high school;
understands the spectrum of learning disabilities and how they may affect student learning;
is knowledgeable and has experience implementing learning supports, accommodations, and modifications
is dedicated to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion and has cultural humility and can show their work towards this life-long learning goal;
can support students to organize and prioritize their work, as well as self-advocate and communicate with teachers;
can support teachers by reviewing curriculum, providing modified work and creative alternatives to support their classes and projects;
is a team player, working collaboratively with our faculty and staff to model and embody our school's mission and vision;
is comfortable communicating with parents / guardians, and facilitates team meetings with families and other stakeholders to advocate for student growth and learning needs;
will take on other duties as part of being a part of the faculty at EBSB.
Job responsibilities include:
1:1 academic coaching
small group instruction
push-in support in the general education classrooms
coordinates testing done with outside evaluators by managing the process with our staff
administors some testing to get preliminary results when staff/families raise concerns about a potential learning challenge
write and maintain individualized learning plans (ILPs), team meeting notes, and manage the accommodations and supports for each student;
organize and lead team meetings, including parents, advisors, and other school faculty
ensure that teachers follow ILP recommendations, including instructional strategies and curriculum modifications
track student progress, including grades, homework completion, extensions, and long-term projects
plan and lead professional development for staff
define school wide initiatives related to students’ development and learning needs
meet with other middle school learning specialists to determine best practices

When hiring faculty, East Bay School for Boys seeks individuals who are experienced in working with middle school students; who can make learning irresistible through challenge, a well-structured classroom, differentiation and a variety of teaching/learning modalities; who love teaching and working with boys; who are passionate about their subject area(s) and learning new things; who are eager to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment; who are creative and have good organizational, project-management, and communication skills; who are willing to assume a variety of roles within the school including academic and social/emotional advising and coaching; who are creative, flexible and resilient educators; who make great role models for adolescent boys; and who have a sense of humor.
East Bay School for Boys, an independent middle school (grades 6-8), is an academically challenging and active environment: built for boys and with boys.
