Job Purpose:
The basic purpose of this job is to teach art (painting, sketching, designing, sculpturing, etc) to students in an effort to promote physical, mental and social development.

Examples of Essential Functions:

1. Develop expansive curriculum that includes, but is not limited to, painting, sketching, designing, sculpture and art history, which promote the development of social, emotional, cognitive and academic skills.
2. Collaborate with classroom teachers in integrating art into the regular classroom curriculum.
3. Utilize books, art supplies and visual aids when teaching art methods and procedures to students.
4. Observe and evaluate studentís work and progress; make suggestions as necessary.
5. Instruct students both individually and in group, adapting teaching methods to meet varying needs and interests.
6. Prepare, administer and grade classwork and homework in order to evaluate studentís progress.
7. Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, guest speakers and other activities to promote learning.
8. Meet with parents/guardians to discuss childrenís progress and resolve any ongoing issues.
9. Direct and plan student art contests and displays of artwork around campus.
10. Establish and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order.
11. Decorate and maintain classroom look and bulletin boards.
12. At all times maintain appropriate boundaries between student and adult.
13. Other duties may include teaching electives such as yearbook or working as a middle school advisor.

Convey a positive image of The Pegasus School at all times when working with students, parents, employees and the public.

Experience/Training/Education:
Required Ė Employee should have a Bachelorís degree, possess valid multiple subject or supplementary & subject matter credentialed or the like and three years of classroom experience.

Desirable Ė Masterís degree in the area of art education or the like; five or more years of independent school classroom experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Requires knowledge in art techniques, history and usage; principles and methods for curriculum and training design; correspondence techniques and English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of Microsoft Office, database and software applications. Skills required include instructing others on how to do something; monitoring and assessing performance; using training and instructional methods appropriate for the situation; use of standard office equipment including telephones, calculators, copiers and facsimile equipment. Ability to communicate information clearly both orally and written; originality in topic of study and materials used; encourage students who have varying skill levels; able to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively with students, parents and other employees.
