Job Title: Strength & Conditioning Coach and Mind, Body, Brain Coordinator
Reports to: Athletic Director
Classification: Part Time (75%) - Exempt
Start Date: July 1, 2019

Position Description

The Strength & Conditioning Coach (SCC) and Mind, Body, Brain Coordinator who reports to the Director of Athletics, is responsible for all aspects of the strength and conditioning program at Marin Academy, and works in close collaboration with the Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director to create the curriculum for the Mind, Body, Brain program. The (SCC) develops curriculum for and teaches weekly classes in the Mind, Body, Brain, Program throughout the second semester on a rotating block schedule. The SCC works directly with the head coach of each sport to put together a schedule for strength and conditioning workouts for each team throughout our fall, winter, and spring seasons. They are expected to work with an entire team during training sessions as well as with individual students and faculty and staff as desired. The SCC is expected to provide expert instruction in the use of weight machines and conditioning equipment and be able to tailor different programs based on the needs of the teams or individual athletes.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Coordinate and design all strength and conditioning programs for all MA athletic teams and programs, as well as creating individual programs for other interested students
Work in close collaboration with the Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer, and Human Development chair on development and execution of the 9th-grade Mind, Body, Brain Program and teach 2 sections of the 9th-grade Mind, Body, Brain Program
Work with the Athletic Trainer to assist with return to sport conditioning of injured athlete
Support education for students about nutrition and supplementation
Coordinate the maintenance and cleanliness of Wellness Center ensuring users follow facility guidelines
Assist in identifying and purchasing needed strength and conditioning equipment
Design and schedule weight room training for various athletic programs, faculty/staff and students throughout the year
Conduct meetings with coaches, athletic trainers and administration to keep them to date on program
Attend Open Houses, coaches and parent meetings when requested
Support MA adult community (faculty, staff and administration) in strength and condition programming
Promote athletics throughout the school community and tenets of Positive Coaching Alliance
Presence at athletic competitions when possible
Assist the Athletic Director as requested
Perform other duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field
Required Certifications include but are not limited to: SCCC from CSCC (Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified) or Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Certified Instructor in adult and pediatric CPR/First Aid and AED or willing to obtain certification
Preferred Certifications: BOCATC Certification (ATC)
A minimum of two years experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach
CPR/AED and First Aid Certified through the American Red Cross
Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Certified (or willing to obtain)
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
Knowledge of California Interscholastic Federation rules/regulations
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
Demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, coaches, the community, and health and social services agencies
Experience in independent school setting preferred but not required

This job is a 75% time, full-year, exempt position. It requires evening and weekend commitments. Salary and benefits are competitive within the independent school market and commensurate with experience.
