Description
Wildwood School is an urban, coed, college-preparatory, K-12 school in West Los Angeles recognized for its innovative practices, progressive pedagogy, and commitment to multicultural programming. Approaching its 50th anniversary, the school enrolls 740 students in three divisions on two campuses. Wildwood School’s deep commitment to ongoing professional development feeds a renowned Outreach Center that has provided programming for public and independent school teachers, administrators, and trustees in over 16 states and eight countries. Wildwood is also a founding member of the Mastery Transcript Consortium, working with universities and other private and public schools to transform the college process and move away from, “...an outdated system that rewards only the acquisition of information segregated into single subject areas.”

Wildwood is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications who is responsible for developing and implementing effective communications and marketing strategies to advance the mission of Wildwood School. The Director of Marketing and Communications leads an integrated program that includes publications, advertising, public and media relations, and digital communications including the school website, social media, and crisis notification. The Director interfaces with administrators, faculty, parents, and students to ensure that all communication from the school reflect the brand in a consistent, relevant manner. The Director reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement and is an active member of the Advancement Department, working collaboratively with the Director of Admission and Enrollment Management. This role requires a strategic self-starter who thrives in a highly collaborative environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Leading the strategic and creative vision for the Wildwood brand to raise the profile of the school internally and externally through a variety of multimedia channels (printed materials, digital communications, website, social media, videos)
• Developing and implementing an integrated marketing plan for the school that incorporates research, analysis, strategies, and tactics that target key constituencies to build overall awareness of the school and its programs
• Implementing and evolving the communications strategy and yearly tactical communications plan in support of the marketing plan
• Creating and implementing an effective public relations program, including writing and distributing press releases and maintaining an updated press list
• Collaborating with key departments and stakeholders, including the Head’s office, Admission, Advancement, Technology, and Outreach, to ensure marketing and communications projects are executed efficiently, meet stated goals, and are consistent with strategic messaging and brand identity
• Ensuring communication policies and processes are in place and evolve to build efficiencies across the organization
• Overseeing content strategy that delivers compelling storytelling across all channels
• Providing crisis communication support as needed, including drafting and distributing notifications and talking points, utilization/management of the rapid notification system, and serving as spokesperson in times of crisis as appropriate


• Managing inbound and outbound marketing materials and tools for retention, recruitment, fundraising, engagement, event promotion, and brand placement
• Ensuring photographic coverage of school events
• Serving as editor, creative director, and primary writer for Our Wildwood magazine (2x/year) and the annual report
• Serving as the brand resource for internal constituents by providing training on Wildwood brand positioning, style guide, and communication materials to ensure consistency in tone, messaging, and graphic identity
• Overseeing the website redesign and branding refresh in preparation for the school’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration
• Participating on Board committees and task forces as needed
• Keeping abreast of industry trends, both in independent schools and general marketing
• Creating an inspiring team environment, implementing clear professional goals and objectives and providing training and counsel on a consistent basis
• Supervising the director of digital communications and media, the marketing and communications associate, and outside vendors including designers, videographers, photographers

• Outstanding analytical skills used in identifying communication and marketing needs to meet the strategic goals of the school

• High level of professionalism and the ability to interact with internal and external constituents and appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work both collaboratively and independently

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required and relevant advanced degree preferred
• 7-10 years related experience
• Proven marketing and brand management experience
• Successful history with social media and public relations
• Strong team player and active collaborator
• Proven leadership in managing teams, including goal setting and professional development
• Ability to manage competing demands and adapt to frequent or unexpected changes
• Experience in, or understanding of independent schools and/or nonprofit organizations
• Familiarity with current software, technologies, and practices including web and social media platforms
