HR Manager, Employee Relations & Risk Management (Full-Time, Exempt)
Description

Position Summary
The HR Manager is primarily responsible for the management and administration of employee relations, risk management (safety/liability), and training and development activities of the School. The Manager will need to respond to and understand the culture of the Community in order to support and inform the School’s leadership and employees on organizational practices, procedures, and policies. This involves managing employee relations, including advocating, and coaching/advising all levels of employees. In partnership with the incumbent HR professional, both positions will rely on each other to ensure HR department continuity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to, the following)
• Partners with leadership to resolve complex and sensitive employee relations and personnel issues
• Provides counseling and mentorship to leadership and employees where needed (i.e.: conflict management, performance management, corrective actions, etc.)
• Manages and maintains performance evaluations/reviews, performance improvement plans, professional development opportunities, and employee surveys
• Leads and manages employee investigations and complaint resolutions ensuring investigations are conducted and written findings and recommendations are developed in an objective and thorough manner
• Ensures the School is in compliance with all applicable laws/regulations/orders in areas of primary responsibility and advises leadership as appropriate
• Develops and maintains the Employee Handbook and personnel policies and procedures and recommends changes to leadership
• Manages the department’s annual budget and supports the Business Office with internal needs and audits
• Leads and manages employee safety to include, but not limited to, emergency manuals, IIPP, Safety Committee, and COVID-19-related matters in coordination of respective departments and/or teams
• Manages all aspects of Workers’ Compensation Insurance (claims, modified work, accommodations, renewals, audit, etc.)
• Manages and conducts training on harassment prevention and other regulatory compliance matters
• Prepares and maintains accurate job descriptions and job analysis
• Facilitates employee separations and terminations
• Manages safety, policy, and compliance of independent contractors (vendors) and volunteers
• Supports all HR responsibilities/activities of Summer & Extension Programs employees and personnel
• Maintains secure and confidential personnel files and department records
• Provides timely, accurate directions, information, and support to all employees
• Serves as backup to payroll processing and all other duties performed by our other HR professional
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications (minimum requirements)
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred
• 8+ years of experience in human resources with an emphasis in employee relations, training and development, and/or risk management (safety)
• Current PHR or SHRM-CP preferred
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills with all community members (students to adults)
• Strong working knowledge of employment law and regulatory compliance
• Strong project management skills with the ability to independently drive programs
• Ability to demonstrate solid judgement and provide guidance on functional areas of expertise
• Ability to demonstrate empathy
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office/G-Suite and HRIS/Payroll systems
• Well-developed business ethics and acumen to maintain a high level of discretion, confidentiality, and privacy
