Kindergarten Associate Teacher
Description
Mount Tamalpais School, MTS, a K-8 independent school serving up to 240 students in Mill Valley, California is looking for a full-time associate Kindergarten teacher. This educator will work with dedicated colleagues to support the education of our students. This is a wonderful opportunity to partner with a range of outstanding teachers, make connections with students, and hone fundamental teaching skills.

Our mission calls on us to develop “knowledge and goodness” and to be “inspiring and nurturing” in our work as educators. This teacher will be asked to do this as they support the success of our youngest learners. MTS is committed to a diverse and inclusive community. To that end, we are seeking a person to add to and enhance our work on diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as cultural competency.

Careful planning, a vigilant parent and faculty community, and strong resources make MTS a safe place to teach in 2021-22. We operated in person throughout the previous school year with great success, with few student COVID cases, and zero teacher cases.

Job Responsibilities
-Assist the kindergarten teachers in meeting the needs of students
-Help students transition into a full day of academic learning
-Lead classes during teacher meetings or when a teacher is absent
-Attend to the social-emotional needs of students and specific interest in this age group
-Commitment to raising anti-racist children and knowledge of anti-bias, identity-safe, and diversity-inclusive practices
-Communicate regularly with teachers and families as partners in a child’s development
-Fulfill on-campus duties such as lunch and recess as assigned to all faculty

Position Requirements
-Experience working with children as a teacher, camp counselor, or childcare provider
-Experience working with a diverse range of social, emotional, and academic needs

Education:
The pursuit of an undergraduate degree
A BA or BS in a relevant field preferred
Counseling or trauma-informed teaching experience is a plus
Experience or understanding of Responsive Classroom, Social-emotional learning as a strength
Personal Qualities:
Ability to work with a wide range of individuals
Exceptional communication and organizational skills
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
