We are looking for an innovative Social Studies/History teacher to expand our young learners in the content areas of history, geography, cultural studies, current events, critical analysis, and public speaking. Responsibilities
• Teach 5 classes per week for students in each grade level – grades 6, 7 and 8.
• Design experiential, project-based learning activities for the classes by using local resources to create an experience that is relevant to the real world
• Create individual learning activities for personalized learning based on each student’s abilities, needs, and learning style
• Determine students’ academic and social emotional learning objectives and ensure that they’re met
• Teach a course in Odyssey’s elective program of sports and creative arts
• Commit to building a community of student-centered educators by making regular contributions to the faculty network, including contributing curriculum as well as sharing best practices and professional development and research findings, etc.
• Collaborate with current faculty to design and refine an innovative experiential model for enthusiastic middle school learners
• Communicate learning targets and outcomes to colleagues, parents, and students
• Partner with parents in optimizing and evolving their student’s learning experience throughout the year
• Implement an academically rigorous and challenging curriculum in diverse settings for Odyssey’s engaged students
• Participate in the full and rich menu of Odyssey School’s educational program including major outdoor expeditions, advisory, elective classes, and more

Basic Qualifications
• 2+ years prior classroom teaching experience with middle school students
• Passion for engaging middle schoolers in student driven learning experiences
• Belief in fostering children’s social emotional capabilities
• Commitment to continuous improvement
• Entrepreneurial mindset and customer service orientation

Preferred Qualifications
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in history, world studies or related field
• Prior experience designing curriculum
• Prior experience partnering with other school staff members
• Prior experience or interest in outdoor educational activities
