Position: Full-Time, Exempt

Established in 1920, Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Bentley School seeks an eager and motivated Assistant Director of Admissions.

The Assistant Director of Admissions joins a team where advancing the mission of the school is paramount. Reporting to the Director of Advancement and Enrollment Management, the Assistant Director assists and collaborates with the Director of Admissions in the recruitment, evaluation, and yielding of new students and their families to Bentley School. Although Bentley Schoolís major entry points guide our admissions programming (e.g., Kindergarten, 6th grade, and 9th grade), the Assistant Director will become fluent in helping families explore admission in all grades where new students are welcome.

The Assistant Director will be based at the Lafayette campus but will assist with admissions activities across both Hiller (Oakland) and Lafayette campuses. This role is ideal for an individual with emerging experience in independent school (or higher education) admissions and is eager to join a community of individuals and fervently believes in the benefits of an independent school education. This individual is known to be an energetic self-starter and will often serve as the first point of contact for prospective families, requiring a friendly and helpful demeanor to be successful. Some work into the evenings and weekends are required depending on the time of year.


Primary areas of responsibility include:

● Managing inquiries by phone; serving as first point of contact for prospective families by responding to inquiries via email and telephone
● Serving as lead in the processing admissions application documents through the admissions database (e.g., Ravenna)
● Providing tours of campuses to prospective students and their families at both Hiller and Lafayette campuses
● Maintaining and updating information Dashboard on inquiries and application numbers
● Assisting with signature admissions events, including the planning and execution of events, such as Open Houses, Curriculum Nights, and Interview Days
● Attending school fairs, small admissions gatherings, and other recruitment events
● Serving as a secondary advisor to Student Ambassador Program in Upper School and facilitating other forward-facing student ambassador groups in the middle school
● Overseeing the day-to-day management of student-visit program for prospective middle and upper school students
● Serving as project lead on any mailings conducted from the admissions office to prospective and/or new students and their families
● Pitching in with other projects and offering support to Admissions and Advancement team as directed by the Director of Advancement and Enrollment Management

Qualifications:

● Bachelorís Degree
● Experience in customer-facing settings; previous independent school (or higher education) admissions experience a plus
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and PowerPoint; comfort with Google Suite programs
● An organizational master who is known for their impeccable attention to detail
● Ability to maintain confidentiality
● An individual who welcomes feedback as an essential tool for professional growth
● Friendly and hospitable communication skills; notable ability to work well with others as a teammate and willingness to take ownership of projects with little direction
