Position description

Ecole Bilingue of Berkeley seeks an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Middle School Social Studies teacher for a long term replacement starting on March 21. Under the supervision of the Head of the Middle School, the Middle School Social Studies teacher is a key partner in creating an environment where each student can be engaged in collaboration, critical thinking, integrity, empathy, and creativity. The Middle School Social Studies teacher has the opportunity to build supportive, trusting relationships to further this mission of cultivating a positive student culture that aligns with Ecole Bilingue's values.

The Middle School Social Studies teacher will be responsible for developing, planning and teaching Social Studies courses to eighth grade students and integrate a range of resources, including technology, to engage, enhance and extend learning goals. The Middle School Social Studies teacher will teach 5 classes of 8th grade social studies along with once a week Debate and Current Events classes and one Middle School Elective class. Other responsibilities include communication with parents, contribution to narrative student evaluations, and collaboration with the Middle School teaching team.

Candidates from independent, public, private, or charter schools with prior experience and a passion for teaching are highly encouraged to apply.

Non-teaching responsibilities as part of the team may include but are not limited to: Lunch table and recess supervision and afternoon car pool supervision
Take on other duties as needed


Qualifications and desired personal qualities:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies or related fields
3-5 years of classroom teaching experience in teaching Social Studies
Previous experience working with middle school students
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Collaborative and collegial attitude
Diligent and well-organized work habits
Solid organization and communication skills
An ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Possess a strong commitment to the mission and vision of Ecole Bilingue
Excellent recommendations
