PS1 Pluralistic School

The Educational Technology position supports the effective use of educational technologies in the educational process within the PS1 school setting and philosophy. This position provides our faculty members with training in existing and emerging technologies that benefit student learning and program outcomes. The position also provides "tier 1" support and maintenance for all classroom-based educational technologies within the School.

The Educational Technology Assistant collaborates as part of a team with the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning, the Director of Information Technology, our Director of Communications & Marketing, and our 20+ Faculty members. Candidates must be skilled and experienced in the meaningful integration of digital tools for age-appropriate elementary school learning. They must be experienced working with teachers and students and eager to participate in our pluralistic educational community.
The ideal candidate has an educational background, demonstrates technical understanding, and desires to work with educators and students. Candidates should be punctual, responsible, proactive, and self-motivated. A minimum of three years of hands-on experience with technology assistance in an educational setting is required. Strong communication skills, resiliency, and humor are a plus. Overall, we are looking for a candidate who can inspire, implement, and guide our use of digital tools to meet the needs of learners.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Faculty & Student Support as follows:

● Collaborate with our Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning to support curriculum and apply practical and innovative solutions to enhance student learning.
● Develop, coordinate, and lead professional development and training opportunities for faculty (including group and individual training sessions.)
● Train faculty in best-practices use of classroom hardware and software systems and provide regular ongoing support for developing skills to foster technological confidence, competence and independence among educators.
● Work closely with the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning to ensure that technology initiatives are regularly evaluated and are consistent with the School’s mission.
● Collaborate with the Director of Information Technology and the Director of Finance and Operations for ongoing evaluation and enforcement of I.T. policies, procedures, and documentation, including appropriate use policies.
● Locate, recommend, and preview new and emerging instructional technologies, software, and hardware solutions that support academic programs that are a philosophical fit with the School.
● Provide support for the school Library specialist to administer the Follett Destiny library database system. Experience with this platform is a plus but not required.
● Support our music studies specialist with software and hardware solutions, including iPads, Garageband, MIDI-based devices, etc.
● Assist school faculty with support for Classroom applications delivered via iOS (iPads) and ChromeOS devices, including maintenance of application database information for individual classrooms from year to year, for applications such Type To Learn (Sunburst), Google Classroom (GSuite for Education), Learning A-Z.
● Support long-range planning and collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement the School's strategic goals related to technology. Be available for consultation with multiple constituencies for short and medium-range planning of events, functions, or projects.

● Bachelors’ degree in an ISTE or NCATE-approved related field preferred.
● ISTE-certified Instructional Technology Coaches strongly encouraged.
● Four or more years of experience as a technology coordinator or assistant within a K-12 school setting may be substituted in lieu of the degree preference.
● Three years or more experience supporting and troubleshooting Apple Macbooks, Apple iPads, Windows client computers, network printers, and client peripherals, whether in a business environment or a K-12 education environment, are required.
● Knowledge of basic networking concepts and applications such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS.
● Knowledge of web scripting protocols, HTML/CSS, etc., is a plus.
● Experience using Apple School Manager tied to an MDM solution.
● Experience administering Google Workspace accounts.
● CompTIA A+ and/or Network+ certifications are a plus.
● JAMF Certified Associates preferred.
● Previous experience troubleshooting AudioVisual equipment, PBX analog, and VoIP phone systems as typically found in classroom environments.
● Working knowledge of basic MIDI concepts for supporting technologies within our music program and 3D printing and laser-cutting equipment for our makers lab is also a plus.

● Works cooperatively and effectively with all school personnel and community members.
● Ability to learn and teach new software and hardware in a timely fashion and troubleshoot when necessary.
● Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written documents pertinent to technologies.
● Solves practical problems and applies common sense when dealing with situations.
● Intermediate-to-advanced level skill with Office Suite applications is desired.
● Listens and responds to technical problems presented by colleagues and clients
● Ability to handle and prioritize simultaneous projects and meet deadlines

● Unless our campus is ordered to close by the state or city government due to public health or other considerations, this is not a work-from-home position. The position requires being present on our campus in Santa Monica, California, for most, if not all, workdays.

● Works at a desk and on a computer screen and participates in meetings for extended periods.
● Turns bends and reaches, able to use stairs repeatedly during the workday.
