Lead Science Teacher/ Grades 6 - 8
Maimonides Academy is a leading independent day school servicing over 575 children in preschool through grade 8. The campus is conveniently located on the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Academic excellence and the development of children with strong character are cornerstone aspects of Maimonides Academy.

Description: Maimonides teachers are instructional leaders, role models, and academic collaborators working for a common core mission of academic excellence and a culture of respect, compassion, and kindness. Instruction with the expectation of high academic achievement is the norm. Typical Middle school class sizes range from 18 24 students per period.

Qualifications: We are seeking a middle school science teacher with previous teaching experience in science. An advanced degree in education is preferred.
Knowledge of, and experience with implementing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and STEM-related activities or lessons is a preferred.
Must have an open mind and a flexible attitude, regarding the implementation of science curricula.
Openness for and/or experience with classroom technology integration is required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plan and teach science in grades 6 - 8
Refine and adjust the Maimonides Academy science curriculum as necessary
Encourage scientific literacy and inquiry-based thought
Differentiate for individual students based on their unique needs so all students are appropriately engaged
Incorporate multiple techniques of instruction, including discussion, hands-on labs and activities, independent writing assignments, and the use of all appropriate visual aids
Plan and coordinate class field trips and class speaking engagements when appropriate
Plan and coordinate the bi-annual science fair, including contacting judges, maintaining open communication with parents, and coordinating schedules with other teachers
Create a classroom environment of respect that encourages students to take risks and strive to reach goals
Communicate and enforce high expectations and standards for behavior and performance
Initiate and maintain timely communication with parents
Collaborate with colleagues
