About Children's Community School
Children’s Community School (CCS) is a progressive, nonprofit TK–6 elementary school in Van Nuys, California. The school is built on the belief that education should nurture the whole child in every way: intellectually, socially, and emotionally. CCS emphasizes inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to explore real-world questions through hands-on projects that integrate reading, writing, math, science, and the arts.
At the heart of CCS is a strong sense of community. The relationships between students, teachers, and families are central to the learning experience. The school is committed to equity and inclusion, ensuring that every child feels seen, valued, and supported.
The curriculum connects academic learning with life studies and specialist programs including visual art, movement, music, library, STEM, and physical education. These programs help students understand that learning is interconnected and meaningful. Classrooms emphasize creativity, curiosity, and problem solving rather than rote memorization.
Children’s Community School is small by design but big in purpose. It is devoted to helping children grow into confident, compassionate, and capable thinkers who care deeply about themselves, their community, and the world around them.
