Nearly 50 years ago, Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis, z’’l, together with Collette Segal and Roz Gidan, set forth a bold and ambitious vision: to create a school, for the San Fernando Valley Jewish community, that would offer both academic excellence and a rich Judaic education–one where students could wrestle with complex ideas, grow as critical thinkers, and be inspired to take action to make the world a better place. From this vision, Valley Beth Shalom Day School was born. Five decades later, VBS Day School stands as a leader in the Jewish day school landscape, recognized for its rigorous academic program and immersive Judaic experience. It is defined by a distinctive educational approach: students are truly known for who they are, Jewish life resonates throughout the hallways, and graduates emerge as motivated learners and ethical leaders, ready to shape the world.
